Coalminer is a dark brown - actually it's black sand with an odd ochre greenish hint of an undertone - an exceptionally pronounced soot-like black sediment, very dramatic, very granulated. As a paint, it is very particular - much like caput mortuum, but not quite as grainy.

You have to know what you are getting, otherwise, the strangeness of this paint might disappoint you - it is more like an effect than paint, the opposite of creamy. Personally, i use it to draw maps that look like they spent a century under the ocean :d. Following the positive responses of coalminer's family, here are some more members of the crew, some new elements to his magical life.

Coalminer's night - calm dark blue undertone. Coalminer's storm - rather indigo gray-blue undertone, like a very dark cloud. Coalminer's ocean - deep dark blue undertone. Coalminer's sunset - fiery red-orange undertone. Coalminer's firewood - brownish red undertone. Coalminer's snow - dirty snow, as if he washed his hands with it. Coalminer's meadow - dark emerald green undertone. Coalminer's forest - darker, duller green undertone. Coalminer's grassy knoll - darker grass green undertone. Coalminer's brother - difficult to describe, not really gray, kind of dirty, but not dull. Coalminer's other daughter - another orange version of c.

Coalminer's grass -brighter grass green undertone. Coalminer's other sister - violet undertone. Coalminer's love letter - bordot red undertone. Please note my swatches are done on fabriano extra white paper, on other paper the paint may appear different - such is the magic and majesty of watercolour paper.

Of course not all can be blacks and browns and ochre, and getting unnaturally vibrant paints is just part of my curiosity: i spend my night mixing this and that, trying new combinations, experimenting and trying to tame various new pigments. My paints are 85%+ pure pigment, which makes their lightfastness absolute, the rest means they are held together by an organic binder, my own homemade honey and myrtus glycerin. Their naturality makes them unpredictable some dry like pepper, some never dry but i like that about them.

They are unique and individual. With each new batch, i try to invoke a theme and invent as many new paints as possible, to keep my regular customers thrilled : i repeat some of the older recipes, because they never fall out of demand, but mostly, with each new batch, i invent. There is something wonderful, knowing that these combinations and pigments have been around since the dawn of time and somewhere, long ago, someone just as adventurous wandered around and explored with a very similar palette in their thick wooly pocket :d.

This item is made of paint and pigment, honey, glycerine, gum arabic, clove oil.
